Kalamezhuthu

On January 6th, 7th and 8th, 2008, the ancient ritual of Kalamezhuthu

was conducted in the village of Kulangarakonam in Thiruvananthapuram

District. For the first time the three devis of the Holy Devi Mahatmyam

as gleaned from the 36 + years of upasana by Vasanthi Gopinath Jayaswal

(California, USA), was brought to life by ritualists Shri Ambalapuzha

Vijayakumar and Family. Shri Sai Prasad Saraswatar of Melemon

Mattom was the Tantri who officiated. Devi Shree Thaamasi, Devi Shree

Thvisha and Devi Shree Koushiki were drawn and invoked with full

upacharas as stipulated by this ancient art of ritual floor creations.

Praises sung in Sopana sangeetam lasted until the wee hours of the

night. Each year at this time namely Dhanumasa, on Jyeshta, Moola and

Pooradom days, on this site where Shri Mookambika Devi Sthanam will be

built, the local villagers plan to comemmorate this sacred event that

brought copious blessings to them.
